All the talk in County Hall is of the new office that has appeared next door to the ladies toilets on the second floor. Those walking past can just make out through the glass panel in the door a desk, computer, printer and a massive chair. In fact it is not so much a chair as a throne.It turns out that this is the new prestigious office of Ray Welsby, from which he will preside over his many campaigns. Nobody has yet thought to point out to him that it is in fact a converted cupboard, and no-one has yet explained why it is that it has not been sound proofed.
